Breast Cancer

Starting at 20 years old
Monthly Breast Self-Exam is encouraged

20 - 40 years old
Clinical Breast Exam by your doctor every 3 years

Over 40 years old
Yearly Mammogram and Clinical Breast Exam by your doctor

Women at increased risk (family or past history of breast cancer, genetic tendency)
Discuss with your doctor for additional testing, or contact Stanford High Risk Clinic
Cervical Cancer

First Pap Smear
3 years after becoming sexually active but no later than 21 years old, then yearly afterward

Staring at 30 years old
May change to every 2 - 3 years for women with 3 normal Pap smear in a row

Over 70 years old
May choose to stop screening for women with 3 normal Pap smear in a row and no abnormal exam in the last 10 years

Women with Total Hysterectomy
May choose to stop screening. Women who have had a hysterectomy without removal of cervix should follow the above guideline

What is Pap Smear?
Endometrial (Uterine) Cancer

Routine Screening Biopsy
Not recommended. Report any unexpected bleeding or spotting to your doctor

Women at high risk for Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colon Cancer
Yearly screening with endometrial biopsy should be considered beginning at 35 years old
